- Portrait of a Nation

One of the climatic events topping Liverpool’s year as European City of Culture involved the bringing together of twenty UK Cities in one place. Allowing for their own individual presentations, multiple breakout areas where provided inside and outside Liverpool’s historic St. Georges Hall. This was the Portrait Of A Nation.

Where required, XL Video supplied tailored audio visual equipment and services to the participant cities.

An interactive Facebook® drop-in point based in the Heritage Centre allowed the public to converse with Canterbury’s five mythical Giants and Norwich elected to exhibit a live radio station with six interactive audio and video displays to try out. A large screen display of surprisingly sophisticated animations, created by schools from Belfast, London and the Highlands captivated audiences in the ornate Concert Hall.

The culmination of the three-day extravaganza was a grand finalé involving all present in a rehearsed tribute to Britain’s Cities. XL Video supplied a huge 60ft x 30ft portrait front surface screen deployed at an extreme angle, creating a projected “roof” extending from upstage to downstage to well over half the audience. From cunningly positioned multiple overlaid projectors, content from live action cameras, video art and pre-recorded film contributions from UK Cities, supported a cast of 500 in this choreographed and synchronized spectacular.
