On a balmy night in Malta on August 14, French DJ artist David Guetta thrilled 9,000 fans at an ‘Open Air Special’ where he previewed tracks from his new album, Nothing But The Beat, and played hits including UK No.1s ‘Sexy Bitch’ and ‘When Love Takes Over’.
XL Video has been providing equipment and crew for recent UK tours by Guetta, who has stated a preference for the Pixled F-30 LED display, which like all of the Pixled range is highly portable, quick to rig and suitably robust for on the road use.
However, for this one-off event held in the grounds of the Malta Fairs & Convention Centre, F-30 was not available and so XL project manager Tim Riley specified the next best thing — F-25 displays, configured as 14 x 8 panels for the main screen with a smaller, 8 x 2 front screen for the superstar DJ’s booth.
Riley, who liaised with Guetta’s production manager Al Green and local client, Fresh Events, said: “We ran two fibres and took a DVI feed from David’s Pilot media server which is controlled with software designed by visuals designer Ben Brett. All of the visuals are produced randomly throughout the show, so no two gigs are ever the same.
“The great thing about the Pixled products is the transparency which allows lighting to blast through and add create a layered effect.”
XL’s system was trucked to Malta by transport manager Kevin Webb and operated on-site by Matt Doughty.
